M.Biryukov and N.Gladkih
Mikhail Biryukov (1927 – 1995)
During the age of communism, artistic expression was greatly hindered. There were some artists, however, that took up the mantle of self-expression, none the less. They gave rise to modern Russian art and expanded upon techniques already known.
Mikhail Biryukov, great Russian artists of Soviet-era remains one of the elite Russian artists from that period to this day. His works appear in galleries throughout the world and Russian museums.
He has proven that artistic genius can arise from even the most humble beginnings. Possessing a perfect finesse in technique and a sharp eye for realism, M. Biryukov was capable of producing the finest aspects of the visual experience; from twilight on a meadow to dawn on a frozen river.
He was concerned with perfecting a union between the human experience and its corresponding natural environment. Thus he could depict contemporary humanity in a timeless natural world. He was not at all concerned with the ‘fashionable’, opting instead to display truth, which he believed to transcend all times and tastes.
Mikhail Biryukov was born in the village of Dobrijatine (in the Riazan region of the former Soviet Union). He graduated from the Moscow Regional Art Training school of 1905 in 1950, and as a promising student was sent to the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow There he was taught by famous Russian artists such as M. Tseremnykh, E. Kybrik, B. Dyagterev, N. Ponomarev and U. Reiner. He was a member of the USSR Artist’s Union from 1961 to the time of his death in 1995.
Since 1952 Mikhail Biryukov had been a participant of the All-Union, Republican, Zone, Personal and international exhibitions. He has been an integral part of the Russian artistic community and has contributed his efforts to Russian art
In 1995 the Moscow Regional Artists Council Administration nominated him for the title of “Honored Artist of Russia”, placing him amongst the elite in Russian Art. Biryukov’s works can be found in museums and private collections across the world, in countries such as the US, France, Italy, Germany, England, Japan, Poland and more.
